 What they said ...

A few words from the participants:

“I feel that the Media connect event was a great opportunity for egta to approach the European Commission in a new way. Indeed, from what I hear, European legislators seldom are given the chance to get a feel for the daily reality of a broadcaster. Yet, there is a genuine desire on their side to understand the real challenges faced by the television industry in these times of crisis and digital revolution. I was asked to make the concluding remarks and also had the privilege to share a “private VIP lunch” with Mr. Robert Madelin, (Director General, Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, European Commission). On both occasions, I had the opportunity to put a strong message across on behalf of egta sales houses: although it is under several types of pressure (economic uncertainty, telcos, attempts at more restrictive legislation, influence of the Silicon Valley, etc.), television is currently reinventing itself and is more creative and digital than ever before! In such a context however, broadcasters need to be given some leeway to explore new avenues as well as be allowed to play by the same rules than the big new players on the digital market.”

–– Heikki Rotko, egta President and & CEO of MTV Oy Finland

"I warmly welcome the willingness of a broad range of EGTA and ACT colleagues to join the Commission officials in an open and informative round-up of current experience and future prospects"

–– Robert Madelin, Director General, Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, European Commission
