LOS40, Spain’s most popular music radio station under the PRISA media group, hosts an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the best in national and international music. The 2024 edition of the “LOS40 Music Awards Santander,” held on November 8th in Barcelona, coincided with the centenary of radio, promising a momentous celebration for the music industry. However, recent severe floods in Spain reshaped the event’s focus, turning it into a demonstration of music’s solidarity and resilience in the face of natural disaster.

In light of the tragedy, the event was dedicated to supporting those affected by the floods in the Valencia region. Organizers, artists, companies, and attendees united to use the platform as a beacon of hope, showcasing the unifying power of music.

Uber’s Sponsorship

This year, Uber made its debut as the official sponsor of the LOS40 Music Awards. The company’s role went beyond typical brand visibility, offering a suite of services that tied it closely to the event. Uber provided VIP transportation for artists and guests, from the pre-awards dinner to the main ceremony and after-party, creating a seamless experience with branded vehicles. Additionally, Uber took over a red-carpet space for the arrival of attendees, reinforcing its brand’s presence among the music elite. The streets of Barcelona also saw a fleet of Uber cars featuring custom LOS40 designs, symbolizing the strong partnership.

A Show of Solidarity and Support

As a response to the floods in Valencia, the awards night became a platform for awareness and support. Attendees and artists donned apparel and accessories that carried messages of solidarity. Some wore clothes designed by Valencian creators affected by the disaster, while others used their stage moments to encourage donations and volunteerism. Their efforts succeeded, raising over 400,000 euros for relief work through donations and contributions from organizers.

Uber further extended its commitment to the cause with “Uber Ayuda,” a free service enabling the delivery of essential items like food and water to affected regions. They also created a dedicated section on the Uber and Uber Eats apps for Red Cross donations, underscoring their dedication to aiding relief efforts.

Impact and Reach

Uber’s partnership with LOS40, amplified by PRISA’s broad media network, made the awards a high-profile cultural moment. The blend of entertainment, solidarity, and social responsibility resonated with millions, enhancing Uber’s image as a brand invested in the community. This campaign demonstrated how strategic sponsorships can evolve from mere brand visibility into impactful cultural contributions, strengthening positive brand associations while celebrating the power of music and community in times of crisis.
